Paul Feig to direct The Housemaid for LionsGate.

Lionsgate has secured Sydney Sweeney for the lead role and is in final talks with Amanda Seyfried for its upcoming thriller The Housemaid. It is based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel. Paul Feig has signed on to direct the film, which Hidden Pictures and Feigco Entertainment produce. Rebecca Sonnenshine is adapting the screenplay from McFadden’s novel. The book spent over a year on The New York Times Bestsellers list. Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures will produce alongside Feig and Laura Fischer. Sweeney and Seyfried will also serve as executive producers alongside Alex Young and McFadden.
In The Housemaid, Sweeney will portray Millie, a young woman desperate for a fresh start who takes a job as a housemaid for Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew, a wealthy couple. Millie soon discovers that the family’s secrets are far more dangerous than her own.
Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson, chair of the Motion Picture Group, expressed excitement about the project, saying, “A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start. My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.”
Erin Westerman, Lionsgate’s president of Production, praised the casting: “Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are perfect for Millie and Nina – they’re both mysterious, nuanced, and incredibly skilled at becoming characters who don’t reveal everything right away.”
McFadden’s book has sold over 3.6 million copies worldwide.
It has been translated into 40 languages and remains a Kindle sensation with a record-breaking half a billion pages read. Feig’s recent work includes the Amazon hit Jackpot! Sweeney is known for her role in Euphoria. Seyfried earned critical acclaim for her work in Mamma Mia! and The Dropout.
