Texas Adding Brand New Film Festival In Round Top

Round Top Film Festival is now accepting submissions for the inaugural event.

Today, the first Round Top Film Festival (RTFF) is now accepting film submissions for its 2024 festival, which will take place from November 7th to 10th, 2024. The festival founders are Shanna and Skylar Schanen, a mother-daughter team. RTFF will celebrate creativity, education, and community enrichment in the charming town of Round Top, Texas.

Nestled halfway between Houston and Austin, Round Top has transformed from a quiet retreat to a vibrant cultural hub. Known as the “Aspen of Texas,” the town is famous for its bi-annual Round Top Antiques & Design Show, one of the largest and most prestigious in the United States. Visitors to Round Top can explore a variety of shops, art galleries, eateries, and boutique hotels, all set against a backdrop of historic buildings and scenic landscapes.

The main venue for the festival will be the Round Top Festival Institute’s 210-acre campus, Festival Hill.

Founded in 1971 by renowned concert pianist James Dick, Festival Hill boasts a concert hall that has hosted performances from notable artists worldwide. This venue will be the center for film screenings, the Opening Night party, and various intermissions where attendees can enjoy culinary delights between films.

RTFF’s women-led team is committed to bringing the excitement of the film industry to Round Top. The festival will feature film screenings, panels, workshops, and events designed to educate and inspire audiences and aspiring filmmakers. Co-founder Shanna Schanen, who has deep ties to the local community, expressed her enthusiasm for the festival. “Launching the film festival here in Round Top isn’t just about showcasing cinema; it’s about honoring roots and nurturing connections,” Shanna said.

The Schanen family has long supported independent filmmaking.

They helped fund projects that faced obstacles on their path to completion. Skylar Schanen, a filmmaker herself, understands the challenges faced by first-time and independent filmmakers. “Some films never see past the final edit; film festivals offer a vital platform for artists to create and exhibit their work,” Skylar explained. “We’re excited to welcome the film community to the best little town in Texas and eager to cultivate opportunities for networking, support, and celebrating the beauty of storytelling.”

Over 40 films will screen across the festival’s four days, with a program carefully curated to reflect Round Top’s laid-back and fun-loving atmosphere. The lineup will include diverse narrative and documentary features, short films, music videos, and Texas throwbacks. Each screening is followed by Q&A sessions with film team members.
