The Black Phone 2 Rings Again: Ethan Hawke Returns in Chilling Sequel from Scott Derrickson

The Black Phone 2 rings up a new nightmare in first trailer.

Four years after The Black Phone’s events, visionary filmmaker Scott Derrickson returns to the haunting world he first unleashed in 2022. The Black Phone 2 sees the return of Ethan Hawke in what many consider the most chilling role of his career—the Grabber, a sadistic child killer who now seeks revenge from beyond the grave.

Now 17, Finn (Mason Thames) is grappling with life after surviving The Grabber’s captivity. But peace remains out of reach. His younger sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw), now 15, begins having terrifying dreams filled with eerie visions of three boys being hunted at a remote winter camp called Alpine Lake—and the black phone is ringing again.

A Family Ties Mystery Turns Deadly

When Gwen begins receiving dream-like phone calls from the mysterious black phone, she becomes convinced that the evil Finn escaped is not done with them. The nightmares lead them to Alpine Lake during a fierce winter storm, where they uncover a chilling connection between The Grabber and their own family history.

As the siblings dig deeper, they realize that The Grabber has become more powerful in death and far more connected to them than they ever imagined.

Returning Talent and a Powerful New Cast

The Black Phone 2 reunites writer-director Scott Derrickson with co-writer C. Robert Cargill. Based on Joe Hill’s characters, the film is produced by Jason Blum, Derrickson, and Cargill, with executive producers Joe Hill, Adam Hendricks, and Ryan Turek.

Oscar nominee Demián Bichir joins the cast as the camp’s cryptic supervisor, alongside Arianna Rivas as his niece. Miguel Mora returns as the brother of one of The Grabber’s original victims, while Jeremy Davies reprises his role as Finn and Gwen’s troubled father, Terrence.

New cast members also include Maev Beaty (Beau Is Afraid) and Graham Abbey (Under the Banner of Heaven), adding depth and mystery to this chilling chapter.

The Black Phone 2 promises more than just scares—it brings a deeper psychological reckoning for its returning characters while expanding the mythology of The Grabber in terrifying new ways. The line between life and death has never been this thin… and the phone won’t stop ringing. Catch it in theaters October 17.
