Karl Urban Says He’s “Never Laughed So Much” As The Boys Cast Reflects On Final Season At SpaceCon

The Boys cast reunites at SpaceCon for a bloody, funny, and emotional final season panel.

The cast of The Boys brought chaos, heart, and plenty of uncensored energy to SpaceCon, where I had the absolute honor of moderating a packed, fan-filled panel with Karl Urban, Giancarlo Esposito, Karen Fukuhara, Jessie T. Usher, and Tomer Capone.

With the Prime Video series wrapping up its fifth and final season, the panel became a celebration of everything fans love about the show: shocking moments, ridiculous humor, emotional character arcs, behind-the-scenes stories, and a cast that clearly still enjoys being together.

The conversation opened with a very on-brand question: if The Boys had its own popcorn bucket, what would it look like?

The answers were exactly as twisted as fans would expect.

Urban joked about a Terror-inspired bucket. Capone pitched an “ass bomb.” Fukuhara imagined a Kimiko bucket where popcorn comes out of someone’s eyes. Usher said A-Train’s should be a giant Compound V syringe, with the needle acting as a straw. Esposito added the perfect finishing touch: “V-coded blood butter.”

It was the kind of opening that instantly reminded the crowd why The Boys has always lived in its own wild corner of superhero storytelling.

Fans Showed Up For This Panel

This was not just another convention appearance. The SpaceCon panel gave fans a rare post-finale look at how the cast feels now that The Boys has reached the end of its main story.

The biggest reasons fans came wa simple: the cast talked about their first and final days on set, Urban opened up about why playing Billy Butcher became one of the great experiences of his life, Fukuhara shared how emotional Kimiko and Frenchie’s ending became, Usher reflected on A-Train’s brutal first day and long goodbye, Capone revealed the personal meaning behind Frenchie’s chair, and Esposito told a full-circle story about encouraging co-creator Darick Robertson years before joining the show.

Also, yes, there were stories about prank wars, fake birthdays, car accessories, and very inappropriate fan art.

So, in other words, it was absolutely a The Boys panel.

Jessie T. Usher Says His First Day Was Killing Robin

For Jessie T. Usher, the beginning of The Boys was unforgettable because his first day on set was also one of the show’s most shocking moments.

Usher recalled that his first day involved A-Train killing Robin, the brutal accident that set Hughie’s story in motion. He said he spent as much time in the hair and makeup trailer getting covered in blood as he did actually filming.

That scene taught him very quickly what kind of show he had joined.

Usher also reflected on the emotional weight of his final days, noting that many of the same crew members from Season 1 stayed with the show all the way through the end. Saying goodbye to people he had worked with for eight years hit harder than expected.

Of course, in true Hollywood fashion, he joked that his final goodbye was not really final, because he was called back months later for reshoots.

Karl Urban Calls The Boys One Of The Greatest Experiences Of His Life

Karl Urban shared how he first came across The Boys while he was in New Zealand. After reading the synopsis, he remembered thinking the title alone sounded cool. When the offer eventually came through, Urban said he was immediately drawn to Billy Butcher.

He described Butcher as a rogue, a scoundrel, and a natural leader who could convince anyone to do the wildest things.

Urban also told a hilarious story about meeting with Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg early in the process. He said he was waiting in Rogen’s office when a “tornado of weed smoke” came through the door, making him briefly question what he was signing up for.

Kripke quickly reassured him, and Urban said taking that leap of faith led to one of the greatest experiences of his life.

Urban praised the cast, saying there was not “a dud” among them and that every day on set was a joy. He added that he had never laughed so much on a job.

Giancarlo Esposito Shares How He Joined The Boys

Giancarlo Esposito brought his signature storytelling energy to the panel while explaining how he became part of The Boys.

He said his journey with the show began when he ran into Eric Kripke while working on another project. Esposito joked that he knew exactly what Kripke was thinking and told him he would do anything for him.

Then came the negotiation.

Esposito said he told Kripke that the studio could not afford him, but that Kripke should let the deal play out until it hit a wall. When the call came that the deal could not be made, Esposito told him to text him so they could work it out.

That is exactly what happened.

Esposito also reflected on how his character started as a dignified, powerful figure in an opera house and ended in a jail cell, broken but still certain that he would return.

Karen Fukuhara And Tomer Capone Reflect On Kimiko And Frenchie

Some of the most touching moments of the panel came from Karen Fukuhara and Tomer Capone, who reflected on Kimiko and Frenchie’s journey.

Capone shared that when he joined the show, Urban gave each of the cast members a chair. His Frenchie chair became something deeply personal over the years. By the end of the series, Fukuhara had taken his chair, giving the moment a sweet sense of closure between their characters.

Fukuhara said the chairs were special because they sat in them every day for five seasons. She loved that Kimiko and Frenchie’s chairs ended up together.

She also looked back on her first major scene with Capone, where Kimiko hides in the tech shop before the now-famous Spice Girls pep talk. Fukuhara said that the early scene helped establish the relationship that would carry through the entire series.

When talking about the final season, she admitted she was gutted by Frenchie’s storyline but grateful the writers gave her and Capone one more in-person scene together instead of reducing it to a voiceover.

The Boys Cast Reveals Who Would Survive The Longest

When asked who on stage would survive the longest in the real world of The Boys, the cast quickly agreed: Karen Fukuhara.

Usher said she could do flips, kicks, and “all that,” making her the obvious pick. Fukuhara joked about the time she thought Kimiko had died after being beaten by Black Noir, only to turn the page and discover her character came back to life.

That moment, she said, was a major relief.

When asked who would die first, Usher gave the sweetest possible answer: the cast would take care of each other.

Then he immediately added that they might sacrifice The Deep.

Karl Urban Was The Cast Prankster

The panel also pulled back the curtain on the cast’s prank wars, with Urban quickly being identified as one of the biggest pranksters on set.

Usher said Urban was responsible for fake birthday celebrations at cast dinners, where the staff would bring out cake for someone whose birthday it absolutely was not. He also said Urban helped start the tradition of giving out very inappropriate accessories as jokes.

Urban and Capone then shared stories involving car accessories, fan art, and one memorable prank involving Laz Alonso being told that Mother’s Milk had a very strange scene coming up.

It was ridiculous, raunchy, and completely fitting for The Boys.

Karen Fukuhara Thanks The Fans For Five Seasons

The panel ended on a heartfelt note, with Fukuhara thanking the fans who supported the show from the beginning.

She said the cast owes everything to the fans, especially because Season 1 had such a hardcore base from the original comic books. She admitted that while filming the first season, she sometimes wondered whether the show would actually air because of how wild the material was.

But fans embraced it.

Because of that support, Fukuhara said the cast was able to complete five seasons and end the story the way Kripke had planned.

For a show known for blood, guts, satire, and shock value, the SpaceCon panel proved something fans already knew: behind all the madness, The Boys has always been powered by a cast with real love for each other and the audience that showed up for them from day one.

All season of the The Boys is streaming on Prime Video.
