The Cable Guy 4K Steelbook Release Date Set for 30th Anniversary

The Cable Guy gets the Collector’s Edition it deserves.

The Cable Guy is getting a new 4K UHD Limited Edition Steelbook release for its 30th anniversary.

The dark comedy starring Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick will arrive on October 6. The collector’s edition brings Ben Stiller’s cult favorite to 4K with Dolby Vision. The film has also been restored from the original camera negative.

That makes this release one of the biggest home entertainment upgrades yet for The Cable Guy. The 4K UHD disc will also include English Dolby Atmos audio and English 5.1 audio.

For longtime fans, the timing is perfect. The Cable Guy has only grown in reputation since its original release. What was once seen as a strange and darker turn for Jim Carrey now feels ahead of its time.

The new Steelbook release also includes a fresh anniversary bonus feature. Fans will get a 30th anniversary conversation with Ben Stiller and Matthew Broderick from the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival.

Why The Cable Guy Still Has a Cult Following

Directed by Ben Stiller, The Cable Guy follows Chip Douglas, a cable installer played by Jim Carrey.

Chip grew up on television sitcoms. He wants real life to feel like the shows that raised him. When he meets Steven Kovacs, played by Matthew Broderick, Chip sees a chance at real friendship.

That friendship quickly becomes a nightmare.

Chip’s idea of bonding includes physical assault, a game of “Porno Password,” and a medieval joust. His behavior turns Steven’s life into chaos, while the movie pushes Jim Carrey’s comedy into much darker territory.

That is why The Cable Guy still stands out. It is not just a broad comedy. It is also a twisted look at loneliness, obsession, television culture, and the need to be liked.

Carrey gives one of his most unusual performances as Chip. Broderick works perfectly as the nervous straight man caught in Chip’s orbit. Together, they create one of the strangest comedy duos of the 1990s.

What Makes This 4K Steelbook Worth Owning

The biggest reason to pick up this edition is the new 4K restoration.

The film is presented in 4K with Dolby Vision and restored from the original camera negative. That should give The Cable Guy its best-looking home release to date.

The Dolby Atmos track is another major upgrade. It gives the movie a more modern home theater presentation, while the English 5.1 track is also included.

The Steelbook packaging gives collectors another reason to buy it. Anniversary Steelbooks can become the definitive shelf version for fans, especially when the release includes a new transfer and legacy bonus content.

The new Tribeca conversation is also a major selling point. Ben Stiller and Matthew Broderick revisiting the movie 30 years later adds fresh value for fans who already own earlier editions.

This release is not just about nostalgia. It is about giving The Cable Guy the collector treatment its cult status deserves.

The Cable Guy Bonus Features Include a New Anniversary Conversation

The 4K UHD disc includes a packed lineup of special features.

The new bonus feature is a 30th anniversary conversation with Ben Stiller and Matthew Broderick from the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival. That addition should be one of the biggest draws for fans of the film.

The release also includes an audio commentary with Ben Stiller, Judd Apatow, and Jim Carrey. That commentary gives fans a deeper look at the film’s comedy, tone, and production.

Other bonus features include deleted and extended scenes, a gag reel, rehearsal footage, and HBO First Look: The Making of The Cable Guy.

The disc also features the “Nightmare Camera Test,” Leslie Mann’s audition, the “Leave Me Alone” music video by Jerry Cantrell, and the theatrical trailer.

About The Cable Guy

Jim Carrey stars as Chip Douglas, a cable installer who wants life to look like a classic television sitcom.

When Chip meets single guy Steven Kovacs, played by Matthew Broderick, he sees his chance for serious male bonding. But Chip’s version of friendship is intense, dangerous, and impossible to escape.

As Chip says in the film, “I can be your best friend…or your worst enemy.”

The movie was directed by Ben Stiller. It also stars Leslie Mann, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, and George Segal.
