Lionsgate announces the release of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Lionsgate has officially announced that “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” the highly anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s next book in the franchise, will hit theaters on November 20, 2026. Fans will be able to return to the world of Panem twenty-four years before the original Hunger Games series events. “Sunrise on the Reaping” begins on the morning of the reaping for the Fiftieth Hunger Games. It is also known as the Second Quarter Quell. This period in Panem’s history is marked by intense political tension and dramatic events briefly touched upon in the original series. The new film offers a deeper exploration of this era, further expanding the lore that has captivated millions worldwide.
The production will see the return of franchise stalwarts Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.
They will produce under their Color Force banner. This marks the sixth collaboration between Color Force and Lionsgate since the franchise’s inception in 2012. Francis Lawrence, who directed four previous films in the series, is in talks to helm the new project. Suzanne Collins’s novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, will be published by Scholastic on March 18, 2025. It will be offered in print, digital, and audio.
