James Wan and Osgood Perkins team up for chilling ‘The Monkey’ adaptation.

Fans of horror are in for a thrilling ride with the upcoming film The Monkey. It is based on a terrifying short story by Stephen King. Scheduled to hit theaters on February 21, 2025, this film promises to deliver spine-tingling scares with a stellar pedigree behind it. Produced by the legendary James Wan and helmed by Osgood Perkins, known for his atmospheric storytelling, The Monkey will be a standout entry in the horror genre. The cast of The Monkey boasts an impressive lineup, featuring Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. Watch the teaser below!

Stephen King’s short story The Monkey originally appeared in his collection Skeleton Crew. It tells the eerie tale of a cursed toy monkey with cymbals. It brings death and misfortune to those who possess it. The story revolves around a family haunted by the monkey, which seems to predict and cause tragic events. As the family grapples with the malevolent forces unleashed by the toy, they must confront their deepest fears and unravel the sinister mystery behind the monkey’s curse. King’s knack for blending psychological horror with supernatural elements makes this story a perfect candidate for a chilling film adaptation.

James Wan, the master of modern horror, is producing the film.

Wan’s impressive portfolio includes some of the genre’s most influential films. His work on Saw (2004) set a new standard for horror with its inventive twists and gritty atmosphere. He followed this success with the Insidious series, which introduced audiences to a hauntingly original supernatural world. Wan’s The Conjuring series further cemented his reputation, showcasing his talent for crafting deeply unsettling narratives. With Wan’s production expertise, The Monkey is expected to bring an intense, unnerving experience to the big screen.

Osgood Perkins, who wrote and directed The Monkey, is no stranger to psychological horror.

His previous film, Longlegs, starring Nicolas Cage, was widely praised for its eerie atmosphere and unsettling narrative. It follows an FBI Agent assigned to an unsolved serial killer case that takes an unexpected turn, revealing evidence of the occult. Harker discovers a personal connection to the killer and must stop him before he strikes again.

Horror fans can anticipate a movie blending Stephen King’s storytelling, James Wan’s production, and Osgood Perkins’ atmospheric direction. The Monkey is shaping up to be a must-see for fans of horror and psychological thrillers.
