The PJs featured Eddie Murphy and an all-star voice cast.

The PJs, the beloved animated sitcom that charmed audiences in the late ’90s, is now available for streaming on Tubi, much to the delight of fans who have long been awaiting a way to revisit the classic show. Originally airing on Fox from 1999 to 2001, The PJs quickly became a cultural touchstone with its unique blend of comedy, social commentary, and distinctive animation.
The PJs” is set in the fictional Hilton-Jacobs housing projects and follows the life of Thurgood Stubbs, a curmudgeonly but lovable superintendent who manages the building and its eccentric tenants. Voiced by the legendary Eddie Murphy, Thurgood often finds himself in absurd and humorous situations as he tries to keep the apartment complex in working order. The show humorously portrays the residents’ struggles, dreams, and aspirations in a way that resonated with audiences of the time.
In addition to Murphy, the voice cast featured an impressive lineup of talent.
It included Loretta Devine as Thurgood’s patient wife, Muriel, and Ja’net DuBois as Mrs. Avery, an elderly resident who provides much of the show’s comedic relief. Other notable voices include Mark Moseley and Jennifer Lewis, adding to the richness of the ensemble.
“The PJs” stood out because of its unique animation style. The show used a technique called “Foamation” which combined stop-motion claymation with more traditional animation methods. This created a visually distinct experience. The detailed, textured animation gave “The PJs” an edge in a crowded animated television landscape, making it memorable for its visual flair as much as for its witty dialogue.
The series initially ran for three seasons and garnered critical acclaim, including an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation. Now that The PJs is streaming on Tubi, both longtime fans and new viewers have the opportunity to enjoy this classic show once again.
