Tiffany Smith Talks In Flight, James Gunn, and Dream DC Role – Interview

Tiffany Smith takes flight in a new thriller, ‘In Flight.’

Tiffany Smith is set to captivate audiences in In Flight. It is a gripping thriller directed by Bo Youngblood. The film follows Claire Reynolds, a recent political science graduate who’s at a crossroads in her life. With her career on pause and still grieving the recent loss of her father, Claire decides to take a solo trip to Paris. But when she wakes up on her flight with no memory of boarding and a note warning of a threat onboard, her journey takes a perilous turn.

In a recent interview, Smith reflected on her role and the joy of collaborating with Youngblood. “Bo is one of the coolest people I know,” Smith shared. “She didn’t tell me I was being considered for the lead initially, but when I read the script, I immediately thought, ‘When do we start?’” The proactive and sharp-witted Claire was a character Smith was eager to embody. In Flight, with its complex, twist-laden narrative, reminded her of the film Memento: “It’s one of those films you can watch multiple times and catch new details each time.”

Filming presented unique challenges.

Shot at Arrow Mockups, which recreates airplane interiors, the confined space made for an intense experience. “We filmed in a real plane,” Smith explained. “You’re constantly interacting with the cast, which enriches the experience as an actor.” A thrill-seeker herself, Smith, who holds a motorcycle license and loves travel, embraced the high-stakes atmosphere of In Flight, bringing an authenticity to the courageous Claire.

Smith’s love for genre films extends far beyond In Flight. She’s also worked with James Gunn in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and calls the experience a dream. “The sets were absolutely amazing,” she said, adding that her long-time friendship with Gunn eased any nerves. “I was at Disneyland when my manager called to tell me Marvel wanted to put me on hold. Then I got a message from James asking if I wanted to come to Atlanta. It was surreal being on set with him,” she laughed, recalling her excitement at getting a personal tour of the spaceship set.

Her admiration for the Marvel and sci-fi worlds doesn’t stop there.

She has also collaborated with Kevin Smith, voicing Andra in Masters of the Universe: Revelation. “Kevin’s enthusiasm is contagious. He cares about the legacy of these characters, and working with him was an incredible experience.”

Driven by her passion for sci-fi, Smith is hopeful for more genre roles in the future, with her ultimate dream being to play DC’s Zatanna. She’s ready, she says, to bring another strong female character to life onscreen. With In Flight premiering on VOD/Digital on November 15th, fans can catch her next big performance in this suspense-filled journey that promises to thrill from start to finish.
