Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Features Quirky Fun With Player-Made Mii Characters on Nintendo Switch

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream brings daily island chaos.

Nintendo is bringing Tomodachi Life back after more than 10 years. During a Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream presentation, the company shared a closer look at the first new entry in the series in over a decade. The game launches on April 16 on Nintendo Switch and will also be playable on Nintendo Switch 2.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream keeps the franchise’s hook simple. Players create Mii characters based on family, friends, or anyone they can imagine. Those residents then move onto a vibrant island where almost anything can happen. From there, the fun comes from customizing personalities and living spaces, then watching the weird and wonderful moments unfold.

A Real-Time Island That Rewards Daily Check-ins

Nintendo says time passes in Living the Dream the same way it does in real life. That means island activity changes throughout the day. Residents also shift their routines as time passes. The idea is to drop in daily and see what your Miis are up to, whether it is a new friendship, a small problem, or an unexpected scene you did not plan.

Mii Creation Offers Two Paths and More Options

Living the Dream lets players create Miis using two approaches. Get Help guides players through questions about facial features. From Scratch lets players build residents by choosing from face types, hairstyles, eyes, and more.

Nintendo says there are many parts to pick from, including new options in this game. Players can also use face paint tools to create more imaginative designs. After appearances, players can customize a Mii’s name, height, body type, gender, voice, and personality traits, including how quirky they are and how much energy they have.

Helping Residents Connect Can Lead to Surprises

Once residents arrive, players can help them get started by bringing them together. Dropping Miis near each other can trigger different interactions. They might talk about favorite foods, or they might bond over something random like monster trucks. After they meet, Miis can begin interacting on their own, but players can still nudge them to share what is on their mind or ask for help with life’s little problems.

Roommate living can also raise the stakes. Players can have up to eight residents live together. Nintendo notes that reactions differ when sharing a home, and with multiple Miis under one roof, unexpected drama can unfold.

Shops and Facilities Fill the Island With Activities

Nintendo highlighted a lineup of locations players can visit across the island. Fresh Kingdom food mart helps Miis discover favorite eats. Where and Wear clothing offers everyday outfits alongside more out-there looks. T and C Reno home supply lets players redesign living spaces, including themed rooms like a supermarket or a library.

The Marketplace offers reasonably priced items that change depending on the time of day. Quik Build amenities provides island decorations. Players can also tune into the MNN news station for island updates and visit Foto Tomo photography to stage photo ops.

Palette House Workshop Adds a Creative Playground

A feature called Palette House Workshop gives players more tools to personalize the island. Nintendo says players can design pets for Miis, create custom drinks, sketch a resident’s favorite TV show, decorate a special piece of clothing, and draw house exteriors and ground tiles. Players can also create original items to further shape island life.

A More Flexible Island Layout

Players can change the island’s look with landscape items such as trees, plants, benches, vending machines, and bouncy playground rides. Nintendo says players can move houses and shops, expand land areas, and adjust the layout based on resident suggestions or personal preference.

Extra Quirks and Phrases Add Personality

Nintendo also teased more ways to make each resident stand out. Players can gift Miis quirks that change behavior in small ways. That can include poses they strike, how they enjoy food, or how they toss and turn in their sleep. Players can also gift favorite phrases to add flavor to conversations and help each Mii feel more unique.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream launches April 16 on Nintendo Switch and will also be playable on Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-orders will be available later today on Nintendo eShop and My Nintendo Store.
