The streaming service continues its partnership with the legendary horror author for a new thriller about a teenage babysitter caught in a terrifying mystery.

Tubi is expanding its partnership with legendary horror author R.L. Stine with a new movie adaptation of The Babysitter, bringing another of the author’s suspense-filled stories to the screen. The upcoming thriller will follow a teenage girl whose attempt to earn money for her future turns into a dangerous nightmare involving threatening phone calls, a mysterious prowler, and a fugitive on the loose.
The project continues Tubi’s collaboration with Stine, whose work has entertained generations of horror fans through the Goosebumps and Fear Street books. His stories often place young characters in frightening situations where ordinary experiences quickly become something far more sinister.
With The Babysitter, Tubi is returning to that familiar formula, taking a seemingly routine babysitting job and transforming it into a mystery where anyone could be hiding a dangerous secret.
What Is R.L. Stine’s The Babysitter About?
The story centers on Jenny, a 16-year-old aspiring writer determined to earn enough money to attend a prestigious writing program. Hoping to move closer to her dream, she accepts a babysitting job despite troubling reports of a prowler terrorizing girls throughout her town.
What initially seems like a straightforward way to make extra money soon becomes frightening when Jenny starts receiving threatening phone calls. Meanwhile, news of a dangerous fugitive appearing in town adds another layer of uncertainty to an already unsettling situation.
As the threats become increasingly personal, Jenny begins questioning the people around her. With danger seemingly closing in from every direction, she must figure out whom she can trust before becoming the next victim.
A Familiar Horror Setup With Plenty of Suspense
The premise taps into a classic horror scenario: a young babysitter alone while an unknown threat lurks nearby. However, the addition of a fugitive and Jenny’s growing suspicions suggests the film will lean heavily into mystery and psychological suspense.
Rather than focusing exclusively on a single frightening encounter, the story introduces several possible threats that could keep audiences questioning who is responsible for the disturbing events.
Jenny’s ambition to become a writer also gives the story a personal stake beyond survival. Her decision to take the job is motivated by a desire to build a better future, making the terrifying consequences of that choice central to the film’s premise.
Jem Garrard Writing The Babysitter for Tubi
Jem Garrard is writing the adaptation, with Trevor Calverley attached to direct. The film is being produced by Blue Ice, bringing together a production team tasked with translating Stine’s suspense-driven story into a feature-length thriller.
Garrard is already familiar with Tubi’s horror programming, having worked on projects including R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead, R.L. Stine’s Afraid of Clowns and Buzzkill. Her involvement in The Babysitter continues that creative connection as the streaming platform develops additional stories inspired by Stine’s work.
The Creative Team Behind the Adaptation
The film’s executive producers include Lance Samuels, Joan Waricha, Jane Stine and Jem Garrard.
Dan Bernard, Yvonne Bernard, Tebogo Maila, Darren Cameron and Adam Friedlander are producing the project.
The announcement establishes the writing, directing, and production teams, although casting details have not yet been revealed. The actress who will portray Jenny remains among the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the adaptation.
Tubi Continues Expanding Its R.L. Stine Horror Partnership
The announcement of The Babysitter signals another addition to Tubi’s ongoing relationship with Stine and its growing collection of original horror films.
The partnership has already produced projects inspired by the author’s work, including R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead and its sequel, R.L. Stine’s Pumpkinhead 2. The new adaptation offers a different kind of horror experience, shifting away from supernatural curses and toward a suspense thriller involving a stalker, threatening calls, and paranoia.
Stine’s storytelling has long connected with younger audiences by turning relatable situations into frightening experiences.
R.L. STINE’S THE BABYSITTER will arrive in 2027.
