Buzzkill Stars Brec Bassinger, Aliyah’s Interlude Talk Sorority Slasher

Brec Bassinger and Aliyah’s Interlude break down the wild production, drink-themed costumes and party energy behind Tubi’s new horror-comedy.

Tubi is crashing the sorority party with BUZZKILL, a new horror-comedy that throws a masked killer, a house full of college students, and one increasingly drunk final girl into the same chaotic night.

The movie follows Nora, played by Siena Agudong, a party girl trapped alongside her sorority sisters when a vengeful killer begins picking them off. Nora soon discovers an unusual advantage: The drunker she gets, the more her fragmented memories reveal clues about the person murdering her friends.

Written by Suzanne Keilly, whose credits include Slumber Party Massacre, and directed by Pumpkinhead 2‘s Jem Garrard, BUZZKILL mixes a murder mystery with the energy of an out-of-control sorority party.

Ahead of the film’s debut, Nerdtropolis spoke with stars Brec Bassinger and Aliyah’s Interlude about entering the movie’s wonderfully ridiculous world, surviving night shoots and putting together the ultimate BUZZKILL watch party.

Aliyah’s Interlude Makes Her Movie Debut In BUZZKILL

Despite already building a career across music, fashion and television, Aliyah’s Interlude revealed that BUZZKILL marks her first feature film role.

“Yes, it is my first film role,” she told Nerdtropolis, explaining that the movie immediately appealed to her because it brought together two genres she already loved.

“I love horror movies. I love chick flicks. And this was just kind of like a perfect combination of the two.”

Bassinger, meanwhile, found herself stepping into a familiar position behind the scenes. The actress described herself as something of a sorority house leader during production and said taking on that role with the cast felt nostalgic after years of leading other projects.

Night Shoots Made The Slasher Even More Chaotic

The finished movie may involve characters fighting for their lives, but shooting those scenes sometimes became considerably less terrifying.

Bassinger revealed that much of BUZZKILL was filmed overnight, which eventually created some delirious moments among the cast.

“We were on a lot of night shoots, so this was majority filmed during the night,” Bassinger said. “Just, like, the delirium that would come through that.”

Aliyah’s Interlude remembered the same feeling, especially while shooting scenes involving clowns.

“When you’re working at night, you get a little bit delirious, and everything becomes funny even when it’s not,” she said.

Despite the late-night giggles, both actresses agreed that the cast was surprisingly good at keeping it together once cameras started rolling.

BUZZKILL Turned Its Entire Party Into Drinks

The commitment to BUZZKILL’s party theme extended far beyond its main cast.

Bassinger revealed that viewers should pay close attention to the background during the film’s massive party sequences. Around 100 extras were dressed in costumes inspired by different drinks.

Her personal favorite was the margarita.

“They had like little headbands with the lemons and limes,” Bassinger said. “I’m like, yes, I wanna be in that.”

Aliyah’s Interlude immediately gave credit to the costume team, adding, “They really did a good job on that.”

The theme also inspired the stars to choose their own signature drinks for a hypothetical BUZZKILL party. Aliyah went with a Cosmopolitan, while Bassinger stayed loyal to the margarita.

Aliyah’s Interlude Has The Ultimate BUZZKILL Party Anthem

No chaotic sorority party would be complete without music, and Bassinger did not have to look far for her contribution to the playlist.

Asked what song belonged at the ultimate BUZZKILL party, Bassinger selected “IT GIRL” by Aliyah’s Interlude.

“That is such a good party girl, like, anthem,” Bassinger said. “On the way to the party, that is what I am putting on.”

Aliyah returned the favor by throwing Kim Petras’ “Coconuts” onto her personal party playlist.

For a watch party at home, Aliyah recommended popcorn, candy, and spooky snacks. Bassinger suggested leaning into the movie’s drinking theme for viewers of legal drinking age, joking that cheap vodka would fit perfectly with the increasingly intoxicated Nora.

HOUSE BUNNY And IT Make Their Double-Feature Picks

Bassinger and Aliyah also went in completely different directions when asked which movie they would pair with BUZZKILL for a slasher double feature.

Bassinger picked The House Bunny, keeping the sorority setting and comedy going before transitioning into the suspense of BUZZKILL.

“Stick with the sorority theme, stick with the feminine energy,” Bassinger explained. “House Bunny gets you in, like, the laughter going, and then it can just keep going with BUZZKILL, but then you end with some suspense.”

Aliyah went considerably darker with IT, pointing to the clown elements that connect the two movies.

Brec Bassinger And Aliyah Pick Their Final Girl

When the conversation turned from fictional killers to a hypothetical real-life slasher scenario, both actresses quickly agreed on who they believed had the best chance of surviving.

Their answer was Siena Agudong and her character Nora.

“Both the character and the human playing the character,” Bassinger said.

It is a fitting choice for a movie built around turning traditional final-girl rules upside down. Instead of becoming more alert as the danger grows, Nora has to keep drinking to recover the memories that could expose the killer.

For Bassinger, that strange combination of horror, comedy and escapism is exactly why audiences should join the party.

“It’s fun. It’s feminine, fun, suspenseful,” she said. “It allows you to escape.”

Aliyah’s Interlude pointed to the film’s unapologetically campy approach and willingness to get ridiculous.

“It’s such an original idea for a movie,” she said, adding that audiences looking for something that feels like “a new taste” should check out BUZZKILL.
