The Wayans Brothers reunite for a new ‘Scary Movie’ with Miramax and Paramount.
After nearly two decades, the Wayans brothers are making a comeback to the horror-comedy scene with an all-new Scary Movie installment. Marlon Wayans took to Social Media to break the news, exclaiming, “WE’RE BACK!!! After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers will finally give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again.”
Scary Movie was originally released in 2000. It quickly became a pop-culture phenomenon. The film grossed over $278 million globally and secured its place as one of the highest-earning horror comedies. Brothers Marlon and Shawn Wayans created the film. They co-wrote and starred in it, with direction by Keenen Ivory Wayans. Scary Movie served as a parody. It was also a homage to classic horror films like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project. The series spanned five installments. It became known for its sharp humor, slapstick gags, and clever nods to the genre. The Wayans brothers stepped away after Scary Movie 2 in 2001.
Miramax and Paramount will produce the new installment.
It brings Marlon and Shawn back into the spotlight, joined once again by Keenen Ivory Wayans in the director’s chair.
