X-Men ’97 – Series Review

“X-MEN ‘97″ debuts with two episodes on Disney+.

The X-Men ready to fight in X-Men 97.

As a child of the 90s, the animated X-Men series holds a special place in my heart alongside Spider-Man and Batman: The Animated Series. When news broke about the revival of this iconic mutant saga with “X-Men ’97,” my excitement was palpable. After screening the first three episodes, I can say that the show seamlessly blends nostalgia and innovation. It offers a fresh perspective on the mutants’ adventures that will captivate both old fans like myself and new audiences alike.

One of the most striking aspects of “X-Men ’97” is its crisp anime-style animation, breathing new life into familiar characters and making it difficult to resist binge-watching the series in one sitting. The return of much of the original voice cast adds an extra layer of authenticity, but the elevated storytelling truly shines. Each episode leaves you craving more, with compelling plotlines that keep you on the edge of your seat and eager to discover what Marvel has in store for the iconic X-Men.

While “X-Men ’97” embraces its nostalgic roots, it doesn’t shy away from tackling serious subject matter. The mutants’ struggle for acceptance in a world that fears them is as relevant today as it was decades ago, and the show’s ability to explore complex themes while delivering thrilling action sequences is a testament to its enduring appeal. The voice cast, led by Ray Chase as Cyclops and Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, delivers standout performances that capture the essence of their characters. From Alison Sealy-Smith’s commanding presence as Storm to Cal Dodd’s gruff portrayal of Wolverine, each actor brings depth and authenticity to their roles, ensuring that fans old and new will once again be captivated by the mutants’ adventures.

Verdict

I give X-Men 97′ 5 out of 5 stars. With its blend of nostalgia, action, and compelling storytelling, “X-Men ’97” is a must-watch for fans of the original series and newcomers alike. Whether you’re reliving childhood memories or discovering the world of mutants for the first time, this revival will leave a lasting impression. So grab your cereal and settle in for an exhilarating ride through the iconic world of the X-Men.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
