Mahershala Ali Fights For His Family in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother Trailer

Mahershala Ali plays a former hitman forced back into a dangerous life to protect his three children in Bassam Tariq’s Houston-set action drama.

Sometimes, to love and protect your family, you have to do the hard thing to keep them safe. That’s what Mahershala Ali is faced with in Bassam Tariq’s Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother, which releases in New York and Los Angeles on September 25. The upcoming action drama will release worldwide later in October this year.

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother follows Latif, played by Ali, a hitman-turned-father of three who’s deeply religious. After Latif’s wife unexpectedly dies, he struggles with balancing his work, his family life, and maintaining his religious ways. Latif embarks on a dangerous and brutal journey across Houston to protect his children while his enemies, former bosses, and past friends close in on him.

The trailer itself expands upon this, seeing Ali’s Latif trying to navigate this new era in his life as he and his kids try to lay low. Although Latif tries everything he can to maintain some semblance of normalcy, he’s unable to get the resources his family needs. Due to this, he’s forced to resort to dangerous methods, including taking up physical jobs to provide. Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother looks to be an action-packed film, with heavy stunts, deep themes, and much more.

Mahershala Ali Showcases His Exciting Action Prowess in Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother

Ali was previously set to star in Marvel Studios’ Blade as the vampire-hunting antihero, which had been in development since 2021. Furthermore, Tariq was also set to direct the upcoming action film, but stepped down after scheduling conflicts. However, he still serves as an executive producer in addition to Kevin Feige, Eric Hauserman Carroll, and Louis D’Esposito.

Recently, Ali spoke on why he had left Blade. Speaking to GQ in an interview about this film, Ali stated, “I’ve been doing this professionally for pushing 30 years now, and one thing I’ve learned is that what is for you is for you and what is not is not.”

“For whatever reason, that project is not for me. If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on.”

In the context of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ali made an off-screen cameo as Eric Brooks in Eternals in its post-credits scene. Although Ali may not be making his debut as the vampire-slayer, this film may provide insight into what Ali’s take could have looked like as his character also puts his blade to use.

In addition to Ali, the cast of Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother includes John Cho, Abubakr Ali, Laith Nakli, Tramell Tillman, Tiffany Boone, Giancarlo Esposito, Adia, and Jahleel Kamara. Bassam Tariq writes in addition to directing. It is executive produced by Brian O’Neill and produced by Tariq, Lucan Toh, and Babak Anvari.

Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother releases in select theaters on September 25.
