9-1-1 Star Oliver Stark Discusses the Convention Experience at RescueVerse NJ – INTERVIEW

Catching up with 9-1-1’s Oliver Stark at RescueVerse.

In between meeting fans and taking the stage for a panel at Creation Entertainment’s RescueVerse: A Salute to TV’s First Responders, Oliver Stark took a few moments to speak with me about seeing the 9-1-1 fan base come together at conventions, how Buck’s current storyline has pushed him as an actor, and more. The procedural drama will return on Thursday, April 30, with a new episode on ABC.

On The Fans Building a Community

“I think to begin with, it was the hopefulness of the show, right? It was an easy show for people to watch and feel good about, but then, going further than that, it is the online community, the social media community. The discussion about the show has obviously brought people together, and now you get to have an event like this where you get to insert us into the mix. So, I think it started as one thing, but then it grew through fan involvement and fan engagement, and it just took it to a whole other place.”

On Buck’s Season 9 Arc

“It’s pushed me in the sense of really wanting to do it justice, and not just from an emotional standpoint, but from a physical standpoint, like, what would this withdrawal feel like? The director of that episode, Christine, had a bunch of references from this movie, this movie, this movie, this one might be a bit too far, but this kind of thing, and so we worked on that together. I kind of found like three or four physical traits or symptoms that I wanted to lock in on, and then build the emotion around that, and I did find that the physical informed the emotional, so both things came together.”

Regarding the emotional ending of episode 15, the actor continued to express, “For me, [that] is the show, like that’s what encapsulated everything that the show needs to be.”

The RescueVerse tour continues with conventions in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 30-31 and Austin, Texas, on June 6-7.
