Adam Wingard reunites with Dan Stevens for A24’s brutal new action thriller starring.
Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla vs. Kong and You’re Next, is making a theatrical comeback, but not in the way you expect. This time, Wingard is going all in with hyperviolent action, intense thrills, and brutal kills in Onslaught, his upcoming collaboration with A24.
Wingard’s Onslaught follows an Army sniper, played by Hit Man and Andor‘s Adria Arjona, as she finds herself on the run alongside her daughter. Hot on her tail is a group of genetically engineered super soldiers, who escape a military facility owned by a mysterious scientist (played by Legion‘s Dan Stevens.)
In addition, new posters for Onslaught, featuring Arjona’s character, Celeste, and the film’s main antagonists were also released.
Adam Wingard has become notable for his work in the Monsterverse franchise, which also includes Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. However, the director has also dived into horror before working on these blockbusters, with films including A Horrible Way to Die, You’re Next and The Guest.
Arjona shouldn’t be an unfamiliar name, given her previous role in Andor as Bix Caleen, who helped during the early days of the Rebellion. Arjona will also make an appearance in 2027’s Man of Tomorrow, where she’ll be playing royalty for Superman. Similarly, Arjona’s Celeste will be put to the test as she forges unlikely alliances to stop these three murderous soldiers.
Stevens, who portays the hidden hand of Onslaught, has previously collaborated with Wingard in the Monsterverse films. He portrayed Travis “Trapper” Beasley in Godzilla x Kong: The Hidden Empire, making Onslaught their second collaboration. He will also be returning to the Monsterverse in Godzilla x Kong: Supernova in 2027.
Onslaught stars Adria Arjona, Dan Stevens, Eric Wareheim, Reginald VelJohnson, Michael Biehn, Alex Pereira, with Drew Starkey and Rebecca Hall. The film is written by Simon Barrett with a story from Wingard and Barrett.
Onslaught premieres in theaters on September 4.
