Crunchyroll Anime Interview: Witch Hat Atelier, Daemons of The Shadow Realm, and Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE

Witch Hat Atelier, Daemons, and Dr. STONE casts explain key story moments.

As summertime rolls around, anime fans have been watching so many shows from Crunchyroll and have kept an eye on a few. Although some of these shows may be ending very soon, they’ve garnered such incredible fanbases who are intrigued to see where these shows go.

Three of these series that are ending very soon include Witch Hat Atelier, Daemons of The Shadow Realm, and Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE. The former two are about to end their first seasons while Dr. STONE is coming to a final stop. However, there’s still much to unpack from these shows that fans want to understand.

Fortunately, I had the chance to talk with the casts of Witch Hat Atelier, Daemons of The Shadow Realm, and Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE to break down everything.

Witch Hat Atelier Cast Discuss Emotional Breakdowns, Memory Wipes, and More

For Witch Hat Atelier, I had the opportunity to speak with Anjali Kunapaneni, Joshua A. Waters, and Madeleine Morris about some of the hard-hitting questions some may have. One of these questions is regarding the moral dillemma between Kifri and Nolnoa regarding the memory wipe that happened.

“I think that there’s a fine line Kifri is always straddling for his goals,” Waters began. “He will do pretty much anything to accomplish them. This has been proven to be an old friend of his.”

“Nolnoa and him seem to have history. They go way back. But even then, as long as what he is setting up to do does not put these kids in danger, it seems like he is willing to do it.”

“Kifri also points out to Coco that when they’re talking about forbidden magic, and Kifri says there’s one exception to the rule against casting magic on the human body, and Coco correctly identifies it as the memory wipe,” Morris added.

“So technically, it’s not a forbidden magic, but is it right?”

Additionally, Kunapaneni looked back on the events that led up to this very moment. “I find it very interesting because in the same episode, Kifri is talking to Agathe and Coco being like, ‘Hey guys, that was a very dangerous thing you did at the river,'” Kunapaneni recalled.

“We could have had to erase everybody’s memories. Memories make up a person and who they are… He is willing to reach down into the trenches and make those decisions that he knows are bad.”

Daemons of The Shadow Realm Cast Talk Yuru and Asa’s Shared Beliefs, The Village Attack, and More

For Daemons of The Shadow Realm, I had the opportunity to speak with Ben Stegmair and Molly Zhang about Yuru and Asa’s similarities. Despite having different means of defense, both stars believe their characters share more in common.

“When Yuru’s like, ‘What kid doesn’t have a machete?’ and Asa’s like, ‘Yeah, you’re right, brother,’ I was like, ‘Oh, my God, you live in the city, Asa. What do you mean you want a machete?’,” Zhang recalled.

“I think it goes to show that they both grew up in such conflict and turmoil that their their natural instinct is to be prepared to throw hands at any time.”

“I think the whole series deals with opposites and similarities,” Stegmair added. “Even though Asa and Yuru are different and have grown up in some of their later teen life in a different area, they still hold similar values.”

“It’s not just the billhook stuff. It’s not just the machete stuff. They’re like they’re talking about like rice and like too much snot on stuff.”

Stegmair also showed appreciation for the deep bond that Yuru and Asa share from every moment they share. “It just also shows that that bond is so strong that and [Hiromu Arakawa] plays with this all the time,” Stegmair affirmed.

“All of their other stories, too, that the bond of of siblings, the bond of like friends, the bonds of family members who love each other so much, it doesn’t matter how far away they get separated. That connection will always, always exist.”

Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE Cast Talk Season 4, Senku’s Inner Circle, and More

For Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE, I had the opportunity to speak with stars Aaron Dismuke and Brandon McInnis to discuss the brotherhood that Gen and Senku have developed throughout the series.

“I think it works very well together,” McInnis began. “I think that’s why they enjoy working together.”

“One of the things that Gen and Senku share is identifying people’s strengths and figuring out where in society they fit the best. That makes them a very formidable force together as a management team.”

“We were talking with Felicia earlier and I feel like Kohaku is maybe the moral heart, Gen might be the emotional heart, and then Senku is the metal heart,” Dismuke described.

“He knows what needs done and they know how to convince people to do it and how to do it in a way that is sustainable and righteous. Well, it’s not always super righteous, but it all turns out well.”

Additionally, McInnis also recalled his own experiences in another job and explained how that connection presented itself between Senku and Gen.

“Weirdly, I had not made this connection until now, but I used to be in the startup world,” McInnis recalled. “I was a software engineer and in the startup world, generally you want a technical co-founder and you want the face, like the social co-founder.”

“Almost all startup companies that do really well have both of those elements and almost always it’s two different people that team up and that’s like the dream team. I feel like that is really sort of seen in the back and forth between Senku and Gen.”
