Our Biggest Predictions for Marvel, Star Wars, Disney+, Animation and More
With the fall convention season starting to come around, Disney fans cannot wait to hear more news about what’s in store at D23 2026. Earlier this weekend, Disney dropped an official poster that highlighted some of the more prominent icons of their brand. Keen-eyed fans spotted some of these characters and symbols, which might point to what will be revealed at D23. As for Nerdtropolis, we have our own predictions of what may be showcased this later this week.
For our upcoming predictions on D23, check out our list below! Some of these predictions may or not come to fruition, but no matter what happens, fans can still be excited for these upcoming projects.
Disney’s Theatrical Slate Brings Animation to D23 2026
There’s great certainty that Disney will be bringing some of its upcoming animated titles to this year’s expo. Some of these titles include Hexed, which releases this November, Ice Age: Boiling Point, which releases early next year, and Gatto, which will release sometime in 2027. Additionally, there could be some details about the next Incredibles installment being shared as it continues production.
Another animated movie that may be heading to D23 is The Simpsons Movie sequel, which was announced in September 2025. Although details for that have also been under wraps, its expected summer release date could lead to Disney and 20th Century Studios offering Simpsons fans a short update.
The official D23 2026 poster also sees other animated characters, like Frozen‘s Olaf, Moana, and Toy Story‘s Jessie and Bullseye. It’s possible that Disney Animation could also offer more details about Frozen 3 as that sequel is set to release in November 2027. Meanwhile, the latter duo was already featured in Toy Story 5, which hit Disney+ quite recently. As for Moana, Disney might pivot to discussing about Moana 3 after the live-action Moana film did small waves at the box office.
Another live-action film that could be discussed is the live-action Tangled adaptation. With production well underway into that film, which stars Titans‘ Teagan Croft and Zombies star Milo Manheim, the stars could likely take the stage briefly to share more. However, time will tell whether the live-action adaptation slate may be discussed.
Marvel Studios Might Go All-In with X-Men at D23 2026
Off the hype of San Diego Comic Con 2026, Marvel Studios continued to keep fans excited about their upcoming projects. Notably, fans got some official news about the MCU’s X-Men film with huge castings, including Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Kit Connor as Cyclops. Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey will also return, but D23 could offer fans more from the cast as more stars could be announced.
Another Marvel project that’s been kept under wraps is VisionQuest, the last installment of the WandaVision series. At New York Comic Con 2025, attendees got to watch the first trailer for the upcoming series, which saw Paul Bettany’s Vision confronting James Spader’s Ultron in a digitally retrofuturistic landscape. It’s likely that Marvel Studios could update fans about the series’ release date as well as what to expect in this final chapter.
One project that could potentially make a surprise appearance is Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. The latest and final season of the revitalized series finally brings the old Defenders back together, including Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist. The final season recently wrapped up and is heading into post-production, but fans who loved the original Netflix shows might hope there’s news.
Other projects that could be featured include Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2, which releases later this year. However, one show that’s been up in the air is X-Men ’97 as a third season has not been confirmed as of yet. With Season 2’s final episode releasing this week, the likelihood of a renewal announcement might be too close to call.
Disney+ Brings Percy Jackson Season 3, Descendants: Hidden Heroes, Oswald Show
Generally, Disney+ may have much to offer regarding some of its shows and films in the works. Particularly, Disney+ is betting on Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 to take charge as fans are highly anticipating new footage and more news about the first-ever live-action take on “The Titan’s Curse”. Season 3 is also set to release later this year in November, making the likelihood of this popular series appearing ever higher.
As for one Disney+ film that’s been announced in the works, the next spinoff in the Descendants franchise might also be featured. Descendants: Hidden Heroes, the spinoff that follows the sidekicks of iconic Disney heroes, was only announced earlier this month and recently began production. However, it’s somewhat likely that the cast of the upcoming film could introduce themselves and this new side of the franchise to give fans a treat of this action-packed take.
As for older audiences, another Disney+ show that’s been in the works for a while is the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit show. Not much has been revealed, with most news coming from pictures of production around Disney’s parks on social media. It’s set to be released in 2027, which gives the creative team some time to feature the return of Walt Disney’s underrated creation at D23.
Star Wars May Highlight Starfighter, Ahsoka Season 2, and Its Gaming Slate to D23
Star Wars might have a limited presence on D23’s main stage, but may offer something else in return. Given how the only upcoming film is Star Wars: Starfighter and the remaining series that’s set to release is Ahsoka Season 2, Lucasfilm might redirect its fans to its projects in its gaming sector. That said, it still could bring stars like Ryan Gosling, Rosario Dawson, and Eman Esfandi to the stage.
Despite only a few projects, Lucasfilm has many upcoming video games that are set to release soon.
One of these video games is the turn-based tactical game, Star Wars Zero Company. Utilizing Warhammer-esque gameplay, fans of the table-top tactical genre may be interested to hear what’s being planned ahead after the game releases. Fortunately, Zero Company is set to release in just a few weeks.
Another video game fans might get to demo at D23 is Star Wars Galactic Racer, revitalizing the classic racing series that released in the early 2000s. Taking pod-racing to a new level, players might be able to play a race or two on new and iconic Star Wars planets before the game officially releases later in October. However, there’s one more game that most fans have been waiting for that could potentially get news.
That video game is Arcanaut Studios’ Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, which gives players a chance to return to the Old Republic era. The first teaser for the game was released during 2025’s Game Awards to much anticipation, both online and in-person. However, given how Lucasfilm was no longer moving forward with the Knights of the Old Republic remake, some have doubts about this game. Fortunately, things may be moving along as the addition of Pascal Blanché as art director gave fans hope.
