Zoe Saldaña to be honored ahead of Emilia Pérez release.
Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez is set to make its U.S. and Canadian theatrical debut on November 1, 2024, before streaming on Netflix on November 13. The film, directed and written by the acclaimed French auteur, promises a bold, genre-defying narrative filled with vibrant song, dance, and striking visuals.
Set in Mexico, Emilia Pérez follows the journey of four women, each on a quest for their own happiness. At the center of the story is Emilia, a notorious cartel leader portrayed by Karla Sofía Gascón, who seeks to escape her violent life and live authentically as her true self. She enlists the help of Rita, played by Zoe Saldaña, a frustrated lawyer trapped in a dead-end job, to fake her death and facilitate her transformation. Together, they embark on an audacious and emotional odyssey.
The film also stars Selena Gomez.
Adriana Paz and Edgar Ramírez also star, rounding out an impressive ensemble cast. Audiard, known for critically acclaimed films such as Rust and Bone and A Prophet, brings his signature style to Emilia Pérez, blending striking visuals with deep emotional resonance.
Ahead of the film’s release, Zoe Saldaña will be honored with the Groundbreaker Award at the 4th annual Celebration of Latino Cinema & Television on October 22, 2024. The ceremony at the Egyptian Theatre will recognize Saldaña’s significant contributions to the industry, particularly her role in Emilia Pérez. The film’s ensemble cast won the Best Actress Prize at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Saldaña’s career spans over two decades and includes roles in blockbuster films such as Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy. She remains the only actor to have starred in four movies that have grossed over $2 billion globally, solidifying her as a true trailblazer in Hollywood.
