More familiar faces join the Wizarding World in HBO’s Harry Potter series.

HBO has announced nine new cast members joining its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved book saga. The new additions fill out several key roles from the wizarding and muggle worlds.

British actress Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Doc Martin) has been cast as the fiercely loving matriarch Molly Weasley, bringing warmth and strength to the role previously made iconic by Julie Walters.
The Malfoy family has also been reimagined. Rising actor Lox Pratt will take on the role of Draco Malfoy, the school rival of Harry Potter. Musician and actor Johnny Flynn (Emma, Stardust) steps into the role of his scheming father, Lucius Malfoy.
Hogwarts gains three new students: Leo Earley as the explosive yet loyal Seamus Finnigan, Alessia Leoni as the poised and insightful Parvati Patil, and Sienna Moosah as the bubbly and bright Lavender Brown.
From the muggle side of the story, Bel Powley (The Morning Show, The King of Staten Island) will portray the uptight Petunia Dursley, and Daniel Rigby (Flowers, Eric, and Ernie) has been cast as the gruff and bumbling Vernon Dursley.
Bertie Carvel, known for his award-winning roles on stage and screen, will play Cornelius Fudge, the often-flustered Minister for Magic, who struggles with the rise of Voldemort throughout the series.
A New Era for Harry Potter
These new castings follow the earlier announcement that John Lithgow will lead the series as Albus Dumbledore, stepping into the shoes once filled by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon. Janet McTeer is set to portray Professor McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu will take on the complex role of Severus Snape.
The trio at the heart of the story has also been confirmed. Fans can look forward to Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. This upcoming series will introduce a new generation to the magical world.
Behind the Magic
The HBO Original series is written and executive produced by Francesca Gardiner (His Dark Materials, Succession), with Mark Mylod on board to direct multiple episodes. The project is produced in association with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers including J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman of Heyday Films.
Each season of the series aims to capture the detail and heart of Rowling’s books. The series is streaming exclusively on Max in the U.S. It will soon launch in Germany, Italy, and the UK. The original Harry Potter films and the new series will remain available for streaming worldwide.
Stay tuned for more magical updates as the Harry Potter TV universe comes to life once again.
