‘Heart Eyes’ is a killer mix of romance, comedy, and thrills for Valentine’s Day.

Love is in the air—and so is fear! Heart Eyes delivers the perfect mix of romance and terror, making it the ultimate Valentine’s thriller for a killer date night. With a sharp balance of scares, laughs, and blood-soaked mayhem, this slasher rom-com is a love letter to the genre, embracing its tropes while elevating them with self-awareness and fresh twists.
Synopsis
For the past several years, the “Heart Eyes Killer” has wreaked havoc on Valentine’s Day by stalking and murdering romantic couples. This Valentine’s Day, no couple is safe.
Directed by Josh Ruben and written by Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy, Heart Eyes never takes itself too seriously. As my moviegoer society co-host Drew described it, the film is “self-aware.” That clever self-referential tone makes it stand out in the crowded slasher genre, keeping audiences entertained with an unpredictable and engaging premise.

The Heart Eyes cast is a major highlight.
Mason Gooding, fresh off his success in the Scream franchise, continues to solidify himself as a rising star, delivering a charismatic and compelling performance. Olivia Holt is equally fantastic, proving her versatility as a leading lady in both horror and comedy. Adding to the fun, Jordana Brewster and Devon Sawa who bring a bit of that Hobbs & Shaw dynamic providing memorable moments that had me chuckling.

One of Heart Eyes strongest aspects is its ability to keep viewers guessing. While the opening kills set a brutal and exciting tone, the pacing does lag slightly before launching into another epic killing spree. However, once the carnage resumes, it does so in full force. The film easily earns its R rating. It features uniquely executed, grotesque, and shockingly realistic kills. These elements make for an intense but wildly entertaining experience.
Verdict
I give Heart Eyes 4 out of 5 stars. With its mix of humor, horror, and romance, Heart Eyes is a breath of fresh air in the slasher genre. It’s the kind of movie best enjoyed with a crowd, especially one that loves a good jump scare and a hearty laugh in equal measure.
Heart Eyes release in theaters on Friday, February 7. Be sure to grab your date, or your bravest friends, for a bloody good time.
