Ethan Hawke Returns in Chilling New Trailer for The Black Phone 2

Sequel to the 2022 horror hit Black Phone teases a terrifying family reckoning.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have unveiled the first trailer for The Black Phone 2, marking the return of Ethan Hawke in one of his darkest roles. The follow-up to the 2022 box-office phenomenon picks up four years after 13-year-old Finn (Mason Thames) escaped the clutches of his abductor, The Grabber.

The Phone Rings Again

Now 17, Finn struggles to move forward after his captivity. But evil doesn’t stay buried. Hawke returns as the sinister Grabber, whose vengeance reaches beyond the grave, this time targeting Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).

In the sequel, Gwen, now 15, begins receiving terrifying calls in her dreams from the black phone. Her visions reveal three boys being stalked at a winter camp called Alpine Lake. Determined to end the torment, she convinces Finn to travel with her during a violent winter storm. What they uncover ties their family’s history directly to The Grabber’s deadly legacy.

A Darker and More Personal Story

The film reunites visionary director Scott Derrickson with writer C. Robert Cargill, based on characters created by Joe Hill. Derrickson and Cargill also return as producers alongside Jason Blum. Executive producers include Ryan Turek, Adam Hendricks, Daniel Bekerman, and Jason Blumenfeld.

The cast features Oscar nominee Demián Bichir (The Nun, A Better Life) as the camp supervisor, Arianna Rivas (A Working Man) as his niece, and Miguel Mora (The Black Phone) as the brother of one of The Grabber’s victims. Jeremy Davies also reprises his role as Finn and Gwen’s father. New additions include Maev Beaty (Beau Is Afraid) and Graham Abbey (Under the Banner of Heaven).

Horror Legacy

The original The Black Phone, directed by Derrickson, earned critical acclaim and grossed over $160 million worldwide in 2022, becoming one of Blumhouse’s most celebrated releases of the decade.

With Hawke back in the mask and Derrickson expanding the story into deeper family trauma and supernatural terror, The Black Phone 2 looks to deliver another haunting experience that lingers long after the credits roll.
