San Diego Comic-Con delivered one of its biggest surprises when Johnny Depp made an unexpected appearance in Hall H to introduce the first trailer for Ebenezer, a haunting new reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
The surprise entrance immediately electrified the crowd as Depp took the stage to unveil the first look at director Ti West’s upcoming gothic thriller. The film marks Depp’s transformation into the legendary Ebenezer Scrooge, but this isn’t the holiday tale audiences have grown up with.

Known for reinventing classic horror through films like X and Pearl, Ti West brings his signature style to Ebenezer, promising a darker and more unsettling interpretation of Dickens’ timeless story.
While the trailer keeps many of its biggest mysteries hidden, the footage showcases a gothic atmosphere filled with haunting imagery, eerie supernatural elements, and an emotionally conflicted Scrooge portrayed by Depp. Rather than simply retelling A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer appears poised to explore new layers of the famous miser’s past and the terrifying consequences of his choices.
