Keith David and Macy Gray Talk Favorite Shoes, Childhood Memories, and SNEAKS – Interview

Keith David and Macy Gray reflect on their favorite childhood shoes while talking SNEAKS.

I recently had the chance to chat with two of the movie’s stars, Keith David and Macy Gray, about their roles and their own personal sneaker stories. Keith voices O.G., the wise, jokester king of the blacktop — a true OG in the sneaker world, being an original Chuck Taylor Converse. Meanwhile, Macy brings Adriana to life, a stylish and spirited high heel who helps the hero, Ty, on his mission.

When I asked Macy about her go-to shoes growing up, she took us back to her school days. “Oh, I’m old school,” she said with a laugh. “My mom always put me in those little black and white Oxfords. I had about 10 pairs! I don’t even remember what sneakers I had — my mother wasn’t really into sneakers, so whatever I had was probably really cheap!”

Keith’s childhood memory was a throwback, too. “Everybody was trying to wear Playboys,” he recalled. “You had to get the real thing, or you’d get called out!”

Fast-forward to today, and I asked them both what kind of personality their favorite sneakers would have if they could talk. Macy, a big Converse fan, said her colorful collection would definitely be fun and laid-back. “They’re super comfortable — not if you’re playing basketball — but just hanging out, they’re the best!” On the other hand, Keith said he’s all about comfort now and prefers his reliable Merrells.

Finally, we talked about trading shoes with someone in history. Macy gave a fun answer, saying she’d love to raid the closets of the Real Housewives for their amazing heels. Keith mentioned a stylish figure he called “Dapper Dan,” remembering a character with some serious shoe swagger.

It’s clear both Macy and Keith brought a lot of their flavor to SNEAKS, and fans will love what they deliver.
