A former soldier must outrun a cartel before time runs out.
Angel Studios has released the first trailer for RUNNER, an upcoming action thriller starring Owen Wilson, Alan Ritchson, and Rodrigo Santoro.
Directed by Scott Waugh, the film follows a former soldier who becomes trapped in a dangerous race against time. His mission involves delivering critical medical cargo before an innocent child runs out of time.
However, the delivery makes him the target of a ruthless cartel. With enemies closing in and betrayal coming from every direction, he must survive the pursuit and complete the mission before it is too late.
RUNNER will arrive exclusively in theaters on September 11, 2026.
Owen Wilson Leads RUNNER’s Race Against Time
Owen Wilson is best known for his comedic performances in Wedding Crashers, Zoolander, and The Internship. He also voices Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars franchise.
Wilson recently joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Mobius M. Mobius in Loki. The role allowed him to balance his familiar comedic delivery with emotional and dramatic material.
Wilson stars alongside Alan Ritchson, who has become one of Hollywood’s most recognizable modern action stars. Ritchson leads Prime Video’s Reacher as former military investigator Jack Reacher.
His other notable credits include Titans, Blue Mountain State, Fast X, and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. He also played Raphael in the live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films.
Rodrigo Santoro rounds out the film’s central trio. Santoro is known for portraying Persian King Xerxes in 300 and its sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire.
He also played Hector Escaton in HBO’s Westworld. His additional credits include Love Actually, Focus, Rio, and the biblical drama Ben-Hur.
Scott Waugh Directs Angel Studios’ New Action Thriller
Scott Waugh directs RUNNER from a screenplay written by Miles Hubley and Tommy White.
Waugh previously directed the military action film Act of Valor and the video game adaptation Need for Speed. His recent work includes Expend4bles, which brought together another large cast of action stars.
The supporting cast includes Leila George, Kate Box, Peta Sergeant, Geraldine Hakewill, Cecilia Toussaint, and Scarlett Crabtree.
RUNNER will be released in theaters on September 11, 2026.
