Y2K puts a comedic spin on the infamous year 2000 scare.

A24 produces Kyle Mooney’s upcoming disaster comedy Y2K. It is a wild ride back to the final hours of 1999. That was a time when the world was gripped by fears of a massive technological meltdown that never actually happened. The film is set to hit theaters on December 6th, 2024. It is packed with nostalgia, chaos, and an ensemble cast led by Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Julian Dennison, The Kid Laroi, Alicia Silverstone, Tim Heidecker, and Fred Durst.

The story centers on two high school juniors.
They decided to crash a New Year’s Eve party on December 31, 1999. Little do they know that their seemingly harmless night of teenage fun will spiral into an unforgettable, pulse-pounding adventure. What was supposed to be a celebration turns into a fight for survival as they get caught up in a Y2K-induced disaster of epic proportions. Chaos reigns supreme in a world reliant on dial-up connections and fearing the worst from computer glitches. Watch the trailer below!
Mooney, known for his offbeat humor, brings his signature comedic style to Y2K, transforming what was ultimately a non-event in real life into a hilarious disaster film. As we all know, the real Y2K panic turned out to be a total dud—global infrastructure didn’t collapse, planes didn’t fall from the sky, and computers didn’t go haywire at the stroke of midnight. Instead, the much-anticipated “millennium bug” was a fizzle, with only minor glitches reported. But that’s where the fun begins in Y2K, which imagines a world where all the worst fears actually come true.
The film’s blend of late-90s references, wacky scenarios, and a stellar cast is sure to strike a chord with millennials who remember the Y2K scare and younger audiences eager for a dose of retro fun. Get ready to relive a night like no other—where anything could happen, and nothing is off the table.
