Get ready for Paul Feig’s action-packed comedy Jackpot on Prime Video.

Paul Feig, a master of comedy both in front of and behind the camera, is back with his latest project, Jackpot, set to stream on Prime Video on August 15th. As a longtime fan of Feig, I couldn’t be more excited about this film, which stars Awkwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu. Feig has been a creative force in the industry for decades, and his journey from acting to directing has been nothing short of remarkable. I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Feig about this hilarious action-comedy. He was full of praise for the cast, especially Awkwafina and Cena, who he describes as a “comedy super group and reflected on his comedy journey.
Feig first captured my attention in Heavyweights, a movie I’ve seen hundreds of times and still consider a favorite. His performance as the awkward yet endearing camp counselor is unforgettable. But it wasn’t just his acting that impressed me. Feig proved he had a unique vision. His short-lived series Freaks and Geeks remains one of the best shows ever made, capturing the angst and awkwardness of adolescence with an authenticity that still resonates today.
In Jackpot, Feig once again showcases his talent for bringing together diverse casts and creating unforgettable comedic moments.
The film’s premise is as wild as it is intriguing: In a near-future California, a new “Grand Lottery” offers a multi-billion dollar jackpot—but there’s a deadly twist. To claim the prize, you must kill the winner before sundown. Awkwafina stars as Katie Kim, who finds herself with the winning ticket and a target on her back. Desperate to survive, she teams up with Noel Cassidy, played by John Cena, an amateur lottery protection agent with a knack for getting people to sundown in one piece. But standing in their way is Noel’s slick rival Louis Lewis, played by Simu Liu, who’s determined to collect Katie’s commission at any cost.
Feig’s ability to balance humor with action shines through in Jackpot.
Feigs’s comedy directing attributes also come from his experience directing episodes of iconic shows like Arrested Development, Nurse Jackie, Mad Men, The Office, Parks and Recreation, 30 Rock, and Weeds. Each of these shows helped him hone his skills in pacing, timing, and character-driven comedy, all of which are on full display in Jackpot.

Feig’s career took a major leap with the 2011 hit Bridesmaids, a film that redefined the modern comedy landscape. He followed this with a string of successful films, including The Heat, Spy, and the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, each demonstrating his knack for blending humor with heart and action. His work has consistently pushed the boundaries of what comedy can be, and Jackpot looks to be no exception. With Feig at the helm, audiences can expect a film that’s not just funny but also filled with the unexpected twists and turns that have become his trademark. Jackpot is another standout in Feig’s illustrious career. It is a full-throttle and high-stakes comedy directed by the genius of hilarity and heart.
