Destin Daniel Cretton proves he was the perfect filmmaker to usher Spider-Man into his next era.
He understands that Spider-Man isn’t just about saving the day. He’s about heart, responsibility, humor, and resilience. That balance carries through every frame of the film.
The action is simply phenomenal.
Whether Spider-Man is soaring between skyscrapers, navigating breathtaking aerial combat, or battling multiple enemies at once, the choreography is among the franchise’s very best. Fans of Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games will immediately recognize the influence in the movement, combat flow, and dynamic camera work.
The movie embraces every aspect of Spider-Man’s abilities. We see more web-swinging than ever before, creative uses of both organic webbing and web shooters, spectacular first-person perspectives, and a noticeably stronger Spider-Man whose elevated power level makes every encounter feel bigger than previous films.

Bigger Battles, Bigger Stakes For Spider-Man
The supporting characters elevate the spectacle in exciting ways.
Spider-Man’s interactions with Frank Castle create one of the film’s biggest highlights. Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal share outstanding chemistry, blending humor, tension, and mutual respect into a partnership that never overstays its welcome. Knowing the two actors were once roommates while filming audition tapes for their Marvel roles makes seeing them finally share the screen even more rewarding.
Bernthal’s Punisher brings a grounded brutality that contrasts perfectly with Peter’s optimism, creating a dynamic I immediately wanted more of.
Then comes Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. His inclusion expands the scale of the movie without overshadowing Spider-Man. The Hulk battles rank among the biggest crowd-pleasing moments in the film and deliver some of the most visually impressive action sequences ever seen in a Spider-Man movie.
Michael Mando’s long-awaited return as Scorpion is equally rewarding. His confrontation with Spider-Man becomes far more than a simple villain showdown as Peter begins struggling against an unsettling transformation that threatens his control. The sequence blends physical action with psychological tension and stands among the film’s most memorable moments.
Tom Holland Has Never Been Better
Tom Holland delivers his strongest performance as Peter Parker. His Spider-Man carries greater confidence, while Peter himself remains weighed down by loneliness, sacrifice, and the burden of continuing forward despite losing everything familiar to him.
It is Holland’s most emotionally layered performance in the role.
Seeing Holland reunite with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon also gives the film an emotional resonance that longtime MCU fans will appreciate. Having watched these three actors grow together since Spider-Man: Homecoming, watching their characters navigate adulthood feels like the natural culmination of nearly a decade of storytelling.

A Bold New Future for the MCU with Sadie Sink
One particularly exciting addition is the reveal of Sadie Sink’s character. Sink reportedly did not have to audition for the role, and it is easy to understand why. Her introduction fits naturally into Peter Parker’s journey while opening the door to a much larger corner of the MCU. Brand New Day delivers comic-book storytelling at its absolute maximum and offers an incredibly promising glimpse at Marvel’s future.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is everything this lifelong Webhead hoped it would be.
