Christopher Abbott, Inde Navarrette and Maya Boyd will lead Marvel Studios’ new generation of mutants alongside Kit Connor and Samara Weaving.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Mutant saga is officially in full swing as new castings for Jake Schreier’s X-Men film have been officially announced at D23.
During the Disney Entertainment Expo at D23 2026, it was confirmed that Inde Navarette will be playing Rogue and will be joined by Maya Boyd as Storm and Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier, aka Professor X. Additionally, Adam Driver will be finally joining the MCU as Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister.
Previously, it was announced that Samara Weaving and Kit Connor would be joining X-Men as Emma Frost and Cyclops, respectively. Additionally, Sadie Sink also confirmed that she was doing chemistry reads with other actors for the upcoming film. Now, it finally seems like Marvel Studios has a solid lead for where it wants to take this team.
In previous movies from Marvel Studios, audiences only got to see the alumni of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films, including Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. However, the studio also went all-in with legacy characters with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the aptly titled Deadpool and Wolverine. That film featured many iconic villains and a whole Deadpool Corps, but the newest take on the X-Men introduces a new generation of stars.
In addition to Jake Schreier, X-Men will also have Beef‘s Lee Sung Jim aand The Bear‘s Joanna Calo writing the script. Furthermore, Marvel fans may not have to wait that late to see this new, modernized team taking shape as a 2028 release date was also announced.
Marvel Studios recently set up an interesting plot point in Spider-Man: Brand New Day that could be utilized further down the line. Specifically, it introduced audiences to a genetic inhibitor meant to restrain superpowered individuals. Notably, the same technology was applied to capture mutants in 2013’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. The upcoming X-Men film could potentially set up that storyline, but time will tell what Schreier and his team have in store.
X-Men will release in theaters on May 5, 2028.
